UCAS or direct application?

For postgraduate taught (PGT) programs, most UK universities take applications directly on their own portals — not through UCAS. UCAS Postgraduate covers a handful of institutions; the rest is one-by-one.

Russell Group entry requirements

• First-class or high 2:1 bachelor's (equivalent to a US 3.5+ GPA).
• IELTS 6.5–7.5 depending on program; some accept Duolingo 120+.
• GRE/GMAT: usually not required, but competitive for LSE finance, Oxford MFE, and top MBAs.
• Two academic references and a subject-specific personal statement (500–1,000 words).

Deadlines

Oxford and Cambridge close in December–January. Imperial, LSE, and UCL operate rolling admissions but effectively fill by March. Other Russell Group universities accept applications through the summer. Apply early — funding is decided in the same review.

Personal statement structure

1. Why this exact program (name modules and faculty).
2. Academic preparation — 2–3 projects or courses that led here.
3. Professional or research context — internships, papers, industry.
4. Fit and future — what you do after the degree.

Funding

Chevening, Commonwealth, Rhodes, and Gates Cambridge are the marquee scholarships. Most universities also run partial fee waivers for early applicants — apply by December to be considered.

Student visa (Route)

Apply for the Student visa up to 6 months before your course start date. Standard turnaround is 3 weeks; use Priority Service (£500) for 5 working days. You'll need CAS from your university, proof of funds (fees + £1,334/month London or £1,023/month elsewhere), and TB test where required.
